Solweb Win their Second Contract from Leading IT Distributor.

Established in 1990 Spire Technology has seen steady growth in the field of trade only computer distribution their unrivalled commitment to the customers within the UK IT channel has seen them become one of the UK's leading distributors of computer components peripherals and consumer electronics products.

Building on the success of their first e-commerce website Spire met with Solweb to discuss new ideas for the development of their second site. James Guyan Spire's marketing manger commented "Using an external data fulfilment company gave us a quick and easy route into the e-commerce arena. However we have learnt a lot over the last eighteen months and with new products arriving on a daily basis we feel it is now time to have a greater degree of control over our own data."

He added "The feed back we have received from customers who are using the site is very positive. Even those who don't like the idea of purchasing from a distributor over the web can see the benefits of managing their accounts and downloading invoices online."

Spire had a clear idea of what they wanted to achieve a site:

• Increase the search options to satisfy their customers varying preferences.
• Move the maintenance of product specifications in house.
• Increase revenue from targeted advertising.
• Improve the user experience by offering direct contact with account managers via the website.
• Provide customer with a facility to have enquiries answered directly by the appropriate brand managers online.
• Add RSS feeds and press releases to keep the customers informed about industry news.

With the guidelines in place Solweb began the development of the new site. Such an ambitious project required strict milestones with the project delivered in numerous phases. Just two weeks in to the development and the first parts of the administration site were delivered. Close communication between Spire and Solweb meant any problems were ironed out quickly and the integration between the site and Spire's backend sales order processing and accountancy systems went smoothly. By the end of the first month all of the new administration programs were complete and the websites front end was well under way. With a weeks beta testing under their belt the site went live just eight weeks from the commission date.
